The Peanut Butter Recall Is Only Getting Bigger

on October 4, 2012

It started with Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia peanut butter, now Sunland Inc., the company that produces that and many other nut butters, is recalling cashew butters, tahini, and blanched and roasted peanut products sold at several different major grocery store chains.  A total of 101 products have been recalled thus far.

So far 30 salmonella cases in 19 states have been reported. The recall now includes Whole Foods Market, Target (Archer Farms), Safeway (Open Nature), Fresh & Easy, Harry and David, Sprouts, Meinen’s, Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, Giant Food of Landover, MD, and several others.  The FDA has compiled a complete list of products recalled that you can view here.

More importantly, those who think that since they bought organic peanut butter are in the clear, should think twice.  Newman’s Own is part of the recall as well.  Organic processed products can still be susceptible to things such as this so it is always important to stay informed on food recalls like this.

So before you prepare those PB&J sandwiches for the lunch box tomorrow, just make sure you take a look at the list to ensure the safety of your family!!
