Healthy Snacks For Kids

Need some healthy snack ideas? Here are three delicious and fun snack ideas the kids will actually love! These snacks are packed with nutrients, whole grains, and vitamins. They are good for the heart, eye health, teeth, hair, skin, and more. Start the new year off healthy!

Apple Slices with Maple Cinnamon Peanut Butter Dip:

Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter, natural
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, ground

Preparation:

1. Mix together the ingredients and serve with apple slices or celery sticks.

Mini Veggie Pizzas:

Ingredients:

  • mushrooms, as desired
  • onion(s), as desired
  • pepper, bell, any color, as desired
  • broccoli florets, as desired
  • spinach leaves, as desired
  • 1 spray(s) oil spray, to coat pan
  • 1 whole pita, mini, 100% whole wheat, or whole-grain tortilla or whole-grain English muffin
  • 2 tablespoon marinara sauce, up to 4 tablespoons, to taste
  • 1/4 cup(s) cheese, mozzarella, part-skim, shredded
  • oregano, (optional)
  • pepper, red flakes, optional

Preparation:

1. Sauté desired veggies* in a skillet coated with oil spray over medium heat until tender-crisp, about 5 minutes.
 
2. Toast the pita, tortilla, or English muffin in 425 degree oven (or toaster oven) until lightly browned and crispy. (If using an English muffin, split the muffin and toast the two halves.)
 
3. Spread the marinara sauce over the toasted “crust,” all the way to the edges to prevent burning. Sprinkle on the cheese and top with the sautéed veggies. Place back in the oven or toaster oven and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly, 5 to 10 minutes. Sprinkle with oregano and/or crushed red pepper flakes if desired.

PB-Banana Freeze Pop:

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium banana(s), ripe
  • 2 teaspoon peanut butter, natural, or any other nut/seed butter such as almond butter
  • chocolate chips, semisweet, (optional)

Preperation:

1. Split the banana lengthwise into two halves. Spread one half with the peanut butter. Sprinkle with chocolate chips if desired.
 
2. Sandwich the two banana halves together and wrap the entire banana in plastic wrap. Freeze until solid, at least 4 hours.
